“Mortality”
By: Chasity L. Burg
November 2008

My collage symbolizes the human life span. From a person first heart beat (top of collage) to the rotting of their very own corpse after death (bottom of collage). In the center of the collage is a colorful and textured tree that could symbolizes either death or growth (depending on the audiences perspective). The tree is the unbeatable path that we are all mortal and sooner or later death will be upon us. It’s branches stretch outwards with its octopus-curled branches. Hidden images of screaming mouths, dead bodies and spooky faces are imbedded within the textured bark. Splattered paint touches every aged person, symbolizing that no matter what your age group is, death could be around the corner. The splattered paint also helps the follow from the black and white faces to the colorful dead tree. The faces are black and white for the reason that they are supposes to blend together. No face, race, age group or sex should stand out from one another. Only the tree is full of vibrate colors and texture, for the reason that it is meant to be the main focal point of this collage. These color decisions help make this tree pop out from the canvas as though it is screaming for the attention of its viewers.

AIGA
by Haris Silic

This project was part of a promotional booklet that i had made for AIGA. It symbolizes the work of AIGA medalist, the highest honor given only once a year for the past 80 years. Some of the recipients include Milton Glasier, Paul Rand and others. These masters of graphic design have left an important footprint in the landscape of American culture. The letters A, G and A have been decoupaged with the most memorable works of the AIGA medalist. The letter I was covered with faces of people that are perhaps the future medalist and carriers of this great legacy of AIGA. In whole, this piece of work attempts to communicate the importance of this organization as a bridge between the art and business worlds.

"Dreams"
By: Jennifer Polk

This was a painting that I had done by first creating a collage of cut magazine images. I used the concept of dreaming and how abstract and surreal they can be. This piece also has a duel meaning of how dreams can bring chaos as well. The images of the military planes flying over the cherry blossom trees are a visual suggestion of impending chaos taking over the state of peace. The incorporation of the profile and peach are a more personal detail that reflects a spiritual aspect of my life that happened in Georgia.

This is not a typical kind of art that I usually do, but the collages we saw last class inspired me to do something in the same category
In my collage, I am criticizing the superficial world we live in today. There are so many stereotypes of beauty nowadays, girls and guys try to change themselves so much with extreme procedures like plastic surgery and botox, and we see on TV women exposing themselves in a vulgar way all the time.
In the collage I try to represent all that through a little girls eye. Sometimes I worry what those kids are thinking, they are being exposed to all that in such early age. I wonder what they are going to turn out to be.
At the collage I represent the girl as a cartoon, I did it on purpose because it is almost like she is still in the cartoons’ phase, the cartoons’ world and she looking at all those very realistic images of today’s idea of beautiful.
It is a work of art to bring us to reflect on those things.

"A Few of My Favorite Things"

This collage was made to represent my personality, hobbies, and things that I think molded me into the person I am today.

"Hmmm?"
By: Ben E Benson
December 2008

This collage was made using a variety of textures I had collected and keep at my side for when I need them. I have thousands of them. Upon collecting textures, I often seeks things people have neglected or even thrown out. Thus, the subject is a robot (made of rusty junk) curiously observing some fireflies, as reflected in my curiosity when searching for the right textures.

The world is a ticking time bomb and Im just passing through.

December 2008

Looking through endless magazines i suddenly came up with a concept that as of lately that has come into my life. The meaning of this collage is that we are just ordinary, pure individuals racing through a rapidly changing life. Every second of the day we are faced with something new and usually not good. By the time we can even start to grasp the issue. It has either evolved or was swept away into the past. I used to singer pink to represent myself passing through this collage of social Issues ranging from, religions, to technology to the latest diet fad. I placed a ring over the heart to symbolize that for most women their true desire is to be in a happy marriage, but the world keeps trying to replace that pure desire, with useless crap that makes us think we need it to be happy. The world symbolizes how fast time fly's and by the end of our lifetimes its been a whirl wind of things that seemed useful, but ended up being useless. maybe its because im getting older, or just catching on the the deceitfulness of the world, but at the end of the day none of these things truly make us happy.

My collage comes from a series of photographs that I had taken over time and then converted into paintings. My inspiration for these paintings was Georgia O'Keefe. She liked to do a lot of her paintings large scale. The paintings range in sizes of 24"x30" to 4'x5'. Also, in the collage I included images that I found on the internet showing the media that I used to do the paintings and drawings. Denise Hutchins

My collage is a mixture of different textures and patterns. After looking at some of the abstract expression works that we saw in class, I wanted to take the same approach but digitally. The color is suddle and gradates to a more vibrant tone to produce a lighting aspect and a little more perception.
